A DAY IN THE LIFE OF PAINT MATCHING…..

So I goes to Home Depot today to get some paint matched…. I get there and pull a number, it’s 32. They were working on #24……great! 40 minutes later, they get to me. They mix it, shake it, then 2 of the workers decided to stand in front of the mixer with my paint in it and have a discussion about something in Chicago. After 5 minutes or so and me asking for my paint 3 times, one of them takes it out of the mixer, keeps her end of the conversation up and brings it over to me not looking at me at all and not missing a beat in her conversation about Chicago. She goes the other way and I ask if she was going to check it? Well, she did……. still conversing with her co-worker. The match was off. Still no “how are you today?” or anything for that matter. So, she tries to tell me it’s not “that far off no-one will notice”. Me being a blind man says back well, lets get it a little closer. Now, I think I must of slapped her at this point, because she acted like I was crazy and stomped off, not saying a word. Her co-worker looked at her and then looked at me, came over and says “what’s going on?” I barely start to say something and she comes up and says to him, “it didn’t come out right, I’m gonna do it over” I’m saying to myself “self, didn’t she just say it wasn’t that far off?” So, after the next mix, I’ve been there for almost 75 minutes. It came out light, she re tinted, and after 2 times it came out looking good. So, lets see. Home Depot was 20 minutes from the job. By time I waited in line and checked out, I was there for almost 90 minutes. 20 minutes back. 130 minutes is 2 hrs 10 minutes. I got back to the job and it didn’t match what was on the wall. The matching process started all over again. This time was faster….90 minutes. After argument, they still wouldn’t let me return the paint, called manager, he said yes as I’m a level 3 tier price contractor…….and I made a stink.

This was actually a test. I’m working my last construction job and I left my painter doing other things that were ready while I went to the store for him. I haven’t actually gone to a store for a match for a long time, my guys do. Total time was almost 4 hours. 3 hours and 40 minutes to be exact. I was exhausted.

People this is why we started Match My Paint. We do our test on the site, we mix on the site and we check the color before we leave. Right on the wall its going on. It’s right the fist time, every time. End of frustration for the contractor, painter, home owner and everyone else involved. We will also be courteous to our customer and smile. We will not ignore them. We will make them feel special….because they are.
